Onderweg in de auto hoef je je nooit te vervelen. Er is altijd wel wat te zien. Het feit dat Bombay een mega-stad is met druk autoverkeer ontgaat nog een boel mensen hier. Je ziet ze rustig met een kar met os of met een handkar een druk kruispunt oversteken. Olifanten zijn sinds deze week in de gehele stad verboden. Dat verbod goldt eerder alleen voor zuid Bombay. 
Morgen gaat Sebastiaan weer naar school. Zoals bij veel scholen is het brengen en halen van kinderen met de auto een probleem. Bij de Duitse internationale school is het helemaal hektisch. Dit komt omdat de school aan een drukke weg vlak naast het US consulaat ligt en vanwege de rijstijl van de gemiddelde Indiaase chauffeur. Ze doen ook maar wat. Hieronder staan de nieuwe 'drop off' instructies:
The basic idea is to keep the area in front of the school as clear as possible. This means you may not stop in front of the school for longer than it takes passengers to get out of or into the car.
Do not leave cars unattended in front of the school. If your driver drops your children off and walks them to the school or walks in to pick them up, he either needs to park away from the front of the school or you need to send a nanny or maid in to the school while the driver parks a little way from the school.
Do not do a U turn in front of the school or place your car at right angles to the flow of traffic (parking nose-in to the driveway). Even when this is for only a few moments, it stops the flow of traffic and blocks the driveway.
If you walk your children from the car to the school or pick them up, please ask your driver to move away from the school and call him when you are on the road and ready to leave again so he does not have to wait and cause traffic congestion.
Do not stop in front of the driveways.
Please queue, rather than double-park. This will help ensure that cars are not moving where children are walking.

Hoe weet je dat je kind in India opgroeid? Als een van de eerste woordjes die ze zegt 'spicy' (=gekruid) is. Julia zegt nog niet veel maar ze weet wel duidelijk te maken wanneer ze iets te 'spicy' vindt. Dat woord heb je hier ook wel nodig.
Het blijkt ONMOGELIJK te zijn om op zaterdag in megastad Mumbai naar een Engelstalige film te gaan na 6 uur s'avonds. Alles staat hier in het teken van Bollywood. Lang leve Bollywood maar helaas is de Engelse taal daar nog niet doorgedrongen. Uiteindelijk zijn we om kwart voor zes (een onmogelijke tijd) bij de Simpsons beland. Tot onze verrassing was deze nog grappig ook.
Hoogtepunt van de avond was uiteraard weer het volkslied. In het verkeer zijn Indiers zo ongeorganiseerd als het maar zijn kan en voordringen in de rij is ze ook niet vreemd. In de bioscoopzaal springt iedereen echter strak in het gelid om mee te zingen met het nationale volkslied. Oh wee als je niet opstaat! Dan krijg je toch wel het nodige boegeroep te horen en loop je het risico dat je de film niet uit kan kijken.
